Other Proud Traditions Won't Die EIther

Just as faithfully as we follow the Rules of the Road and the Second Law of Thermodynamics, the Brat Pack maintains certain bass player traditions in spite of the recent innovation. These include, but are not limited to, a cute skirt, occasional party hats, and intoxicating perfume.

News and Weather

Yesterday was pretty hot.
Today too, but we had a brief storm. It screwed up the phone booth time machine and local traffic.

Tomorrow? It's too soon to tell.
Good weather for something or other though.

What's so Great about State Fairs?

First it's the time honored tradition of pairing g-force with untold fried delights.

Followed by the even more epic battle between 80s band and nature...

It will end in tears.

Hey, That's Not 80s!

Using cutting edge technology, we have succeeded in literally STOPPING time at two separate points, unveiling the shocking truth about a potential relationship between Michael Jackson and a fictional television character of today.

Not yet deceased in the 80s, when this Block Party Beach Party is said to have occurred, MJ could easily have been a deep sea diver without airhoses. Given his trusting personality and love of nature, he might well have danced with a shark.

Our carefully calibrated time-traveling telephotogenetographic instruments have produced documentary evidence suggesting that either MJ traveled into the future to watch the Jack-Tor episode of 30 Rock and take Jack's classic walk moves back to the 80s (undersea) OR that Donaghy paid homage to the master in 2006, which is far less likely, given that 30 Rock is pretend.

We Went All the Way to the Bermuda Triangle, and All We Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt

OOPS! Did I say "lousy t-shirt?" I meant kick-ass gig plus vacation!

P.S. Happy Birthday, Jacob. You rock!

The Only Way to Fly

I was getting nervous about our trip next week, but we might still have time to switch to a gentler form of air travel. Sure there's less altitude and a lot less room for checked luggage, but it's so soft and sweet, who cares?

Oops!

Guido explained some stuff to me this weekend. I was under the impression, because I think Jesse Van Halen said something about it, that we'd be doing our Fourth of July show on the Atlantis Space Shuttle, currently docked at NASA. Apparently that was wrong. Guido laughed and said "No no no, it's docked there so that the computers can be fixed not so people can party! You silly!"

Then he told me that we're actually playing the lost continent of Atlantis in the Bermuda Triangle. It seems a little scary really, but I'll bring goggles.

Like Rain on Memorial Day Weekend

Do you remember in the 80s, how we had never heard of Alanis Morrisette so we all still kind of understood what Irony was? Frankly, I just can't put it together anymore, so I'll look to the Oxford American Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus for clarification.

"Articles made of iron." (Oops, sorry.) Here's "irony," and it says: "humorous or sarcastic use of language of a different or opposite meaning" (so far no help); "ill-timed arrival of an event or circumstance that is in itself desirable." AHA! (I'm sorry, I didn't mean the band AHA, I meant the exclamation representing an epiphany.)

So if I were to say "Isn't it ironic, don't you think, that it's supposed to rain throughout the long weekend that everyone is planning cookouts and outdoor shows and parties and fun in the sun?" I wouldn't be totally wrong because some people would say the rain is a desirable circumstance compared to drought in late May.

BP Fitness Guide, Part Three: The Buddy System

As a scientist, Josh of Seagulls knows the value of teamwork. His research has shown that a workout which incorporates variety, collaboration, the first and second laws of thermodynamics, and a pinch of competition can be up to 73% more effective than, say, the more passive approach of certain non-human members of the band. To reach his health and wellness goals, Josh of Seagulls makes sure to find time for the study of health and wellness journals during his fifteen hours of daily reading. He experiments enthusiastically with each new fad diet and breakthrough workout plan and summarizes the results for his many scholarly associates.
